Oneya Johnson is an American social media star and aspiring musician who is best
known for his “Angry Reactions” videos on TikTok, shouting out what his fans have
dubbed “aggressively positive” messages. After quickly earning a massive following, he
collaborated with huge stars like MrBeast and Charli D’Amelio. Apart from TikTok, he is
also active on Instagram and YouTube, although he mostly re-uploads his TikTok
contents there.
Career
Oneya Johnson was homeless and living out of his car in 2020 when he came up with
the idea for his TikTok account, “Angry Reactions” (@angryreactions), where he makes
primarily reaction videos via duets with other creators. His first video in August 2020
was a duet with @bobbysrey’s cake-decorating tutorial, which was one of the first
videos he came across on the platform. While he expected the video to do well, even he
was surprised to see that his video went viral and earned him over a million followers
within 17 hours.
Shortly after earning viral fame, he was invited by Charli D’Amelio, who was at the time
the most popular TikToker, for taste-testing her Dunkin’ drink. The two have been
supporting each other ever since and he shared a video with Charli with the caption, “I
Dare ANYBODY to play with my little sister”. He was so overwhelmed with the
D’Amelios for treating him like a family that he even changed his name on social media
to Oneya D’Amelio. He next wants to establish himself as a musician.
Manifesting His Dream Life
In an interview with Elite Daily in December 2023, Oneya Johnson stated that he was
convinced that he’ll be successful when he was 13 and didn’t let his circumstances keep
him from manifesting his success. Talking about how he manifested his dream life, he
added that people told him throughout his life that he looked angry, so as a “big, tall,
scary-looking dude”, he embraced the angry persona. While he accepts that he got
lucky with his first viral video, he now thinks that it is actually very easy to gain followers
on social media once one understands the process. He further revealed that he used to
make content since 14, but back then he didn’t know exactly what he wanted to do and
experimented with different types of videos which didn’t really help him gain an
audience. For him, the key was to know his audience: “Once I got a grasp of what my
audience wanted, I’ve had them in a chokehold for years.”
Family Life
Oneya Johnson is originally from Chicago, and not Jackson, Mississippi as mentioned
on various online sites. He confirmed to BuzzFeed that he lived in Michigan with his ex
Jillian, with whom he has two children, and became homeless after his landlord evicted
him because neighbors complained about loud shouting noises. He then moved to his
brother’s neighborhood in Lafayette, Indiana. After gaining success online, he found a
home in Los Angeles. He was in a relationship with YouTuber Hannah Pearl Davis.
