Greg Metelus is an American social media star who is known for his dance, comedy and lip-sync video on his TikTok profile @metelus_1 and modeling snaps on his Instagram handle @_metelus. In 2021, he was a cast on HBO’s dating reality television series FBOY Island. He has worked as a model for brands like Jordan and Fashion Nova. He is also a YouTuber who regularly posts pranks, challenges and vlogs on his MetelusTV channel.
Early Life
Greg Metelus played football and basketball in college, but had to drop out in his junior year. His mother wanted him to focus on getting a regular job, but he didn’t want someone bossing over him, so he had an altercation with her and had to move out on his own, at which point he could not pay for tuition anymore. His first job was as a server at an Applebee’s, following which he worked in YMCA, served as a substitute teacher and also worked as a nanny to two White boys. He eventually moved to Los Angeles to further his modeling career.
Career
Shortly after Greg Metelus did a couple modeling gigs, the Covid-19 pandemic hit and he had to look for alternative sources of income. Frustrated, he deleted all his old social media accounts on Instagram and Twitter and listed goals that included larger social media reach and even a reality show. He joined TikTok in January 2020 and posted 6-8 videos each day for six months straight. As a model, he was also able to rebuild his Instagram following. While he had his YouTube channel since 2019, he only started posting on the platform in mid-2022.
His goal of appearing in a reality show led him to interview for season three of the British reality television dating game show Too Hot to Handle, although it didn’t work out because of issues with timing. He later went on to feature on the first season of the American dating reality television series FBOY Island, which focuses on three women trying to identify 24 men as either womanizers ("fboys") or seeking a serious relationship ("nice guys"). He was cast as one of the 12 fboys and was immediately attracted to one of the three women, Nakia Renee, a 28-year-old hair and makeup stylist, singer, and songwriter from Los Angeles. However, he was eventually eliminated in the eighth episode of the show. He later stated that “everything was staged besides your feelings”.
Family Life
Although Greg Metelus was born in Haiti, he was brought to the United States when he was just three years old. He also has Venezuelan ancestry. Although Spanish was his first language, he is not fluent in it as his mother stopped speaking Spanish to him after settling in America. He speaks Haitian Creole and English. He was raised by a single mother and has one brother and two sisters. He lived in Florida until about 12 years of age, and then lived in Boston between 13 to 24 years.
