Matthew Nichols is an American social media star who is known for making sketch comedy videos through dubs, montages, and memes on his TikTok profile @matthewnichols02. He also created content promoting musical artist Daniel Seavey for Atlantic Records. Alongside social media, he launched the clothing brand “Unxpectd” with his friends. According to his Instagram bio, he is currently working for a Demolition and Excavation Company.

Early Life

Matthew Nichols attended Paul Laurence Dunbar High School from 2016 to 2020 and obtained his school diploma. In school, he played soccer and acted in musical theatre. He was also the anchor and editor for the high school news channel PLD Lamplighter.

Career

Matthew Nichols was in his senior year in high school when he was first introduced to TikTok by one of his teammates from his high school soccer team. The two teamed up to make the best video they could and posted it on TikTok. Although they didn’t have high expectations, they were pleasantly surprised to get around 2k views overnight. He was encouraged to post more videos on the platform and his fifth video went viral, earning over 400k views.

Matthew, who had started gaining popularity on TikTok in August 2019, soon realized that he was enjoying filming videos and making people laugh, and continued to focus on social media, surpassing a million followers in a little over a year. While his initial content was aimed at a young audience, he also evolved his content for a more matured audience as he spent more time on social media. Moreover, he focused his content on “positivity and genuineness”, which he thought made him stand out from the rest of the creators, as he told the When I Make It To LA website in December 2020. He further mentioned treating his followers as his friends.

Clothing Brand

Along with some of his childhood friends, Matthew Nichols had launched a clothing business called “Unxpectd” in March 2020. Although it was initially a high school senior project, it was very successful and turned into a full-fledged clothing brand with social media presence, particularly on TikTok. Matthew himself was not involved in the day-to-day activates of the brand, but regularly contributed to its social media marketing by promoting their products on various platforms including TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.

He moved to Los Angeles with a friend in September 2020 to gain experience and provide more opportunities for the brand to grow. Soon after that, he also brainstormed the idea to promote the brand with a parody of a video from The Wave House in which he appeared in a tub full of Fruit Loops wearing a dress. It was the first viral video of the brand with over 600k views.

Family Life

Matthew Nichols has two siblings named Mackie and Meredith. His mother’s name is Karen Walls. Although he doesn’t usually feature his family members in his videos, he once shared a picture with them on his Instagram. He is a devout Christian.
