Dr. Disrespect, or the Doc, is an online persona created by American streamer Herschel Guy Beahm IV who played battle royale games on Twitch. After his channel was banned on the platform for unknown reasons, he moved to streaming on YouTube. He has done sponsorship deals with Gillette, ASUS, Roccat and Game Fuel, and is known for working with Sledgehammer Games, Boom.TV and Hi-Rez Studios, among others.

Early Life

Dr. Disrespect graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in 2005. There, he played NCAA Division II basketball.

Career

In the following few years after completing his education, Dr. Disrespect had made a name for himself in the online multiplayer gaming field, especially Halo 2 on Xbox, where “Dr. Disrespect” was his second username. It originated from the fact that he enjoyed trolling and disrespecting his opponents on proximity chat using a certain voice that eventually morphed into the persona he had created of a player of multiplayer games, a hyper-caricature of how the stereotypical male gamer views himself. The character first made appearance in a YouTube video from January 2010, but he later retired the character for five years as he began working as the community manager of Sledgehammer Games on Call of Duty maps on March 16, 2011.

While working there, he joined Justin.tv, which later became Twitch. He loved streaming himself playing battle royale games like H1Z1, PUBG: Battlegrounds and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. He also uploaded clips from his gameplays on his YouTube channel, gaining a steady flow of fans. He eventually quit his job at Sledgehammer in 2015 to become a fulltime streamer and reintroduced his Dr. Disrespect persona, which was very popular among his fans. In 2017, he was named Streamer of the Year at Esports Industry Awards and Trending Gamer at The Game Awards. He went very close to breaking Tyler1's record of 410,000 concurrent viewers with 388,000 viewers on February 5, 2018.

Controversies

Dr. Disrespect’s Twitch channel was suspended on June 11, 2019 after he continued to livestream even from a public bathroom while attending the E3 event in 2019. While his channel was reinstated on June 25th, exactly a year later on June 26, 2020, his channel was permanently banned for undisclosed reasons. He eventually ended up suing Twitch, and although they resolved the issue in March 2022, he had by then already made the switch to YouTube and refused to return to Twitch.

Family Life

Dr. Disrespect was born as Herschel "Guy" Beahm IV. Since 2013, he has been married to a woman known online as Mrs Assassin, who is also a gamer and has appeared in his livestreams. They have a daughter together. His wife went through a miscarriage which, combined with the fact that he was unfaithful to her on several occasions, prompted him to take a two-month hiatus in December 2017 to focus on his marriage. He was forced to break character while streaming on September 11, 2018 due to drive-by gunshots at his house.
